I Love the Power of a Story to take my Breath Away.

~Sandy Kachurek, Into the Springs Writers’ Workshop Director

I've been active in writing and leadership as an English and journalism teacher, department chair, even president of the teachers’ union and chair of the negotiations team.

Now away from the classroom, I’m a published author and a volunteer for non-profit groups who need help advertising their good works on social media.

Leading retreats for my writers' group Writeshop and, when the time came, taking our monthly meetings totally online are a couple ways I celebrate the art of the written word and the artists who create them.

I’ve served terms as newsletter editor, secretary and president for Central Ohio Fiction Writers, a romance-based group with both in-person and online monthly meetings. I also belong to The Authors Guild and the Ohio Writers’ Association.

At home, two artists live under one roof. I have my writing space on one side of the house and my spouse has his carving studio on the other side. Our long-hair mix cat HarperLee rotates between the two of us whenever she feels she’s going to get better attention or more snacks.

Directing Into the Springs was natural.

In 2018, I was asked to be assistant director of a new writers' workshop in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I filled in as director in 2019 and took over from then. I renamed it and restructured its format. Doing so pulls in skills I’ve learned and used as a leader and writer.

The format is challenging but it makes sense.

I keep everyone, participants and guest instructors, together in one room for the whole weekend.

It asks a lot of the instructors, who are always focused and ready to contribute to any discussion or presentation. Whether mixed genres or various levels of writing experience, registrants should feel that the sessions, events, and presenters are addressing their needs in order to be a successful writer in this challenging and unpredictable writing world.

My Philosophy.

I strive to create a relaxed yet professional atmosphere of learning and inspiration through an interaction of skills, experiences, and ideas using successfully published authors and writing experts as guides and springboards for achievement of the workshop’s goals.

Workshop Goals.

Cultivate Your Craft: Sessions and events that help hone writing skills to create effective stories and narratives.

Grow Your Writing Business and Community: Sessions and events that focus on skills and necessities for writing success that are beyond stories and narratives.

In Gratitude:

Thank you for being part of Into the Springs. If you’d like to provide funding to help me expand my reach to bring featured guests to the workshop, please email me.

As director, I get to introduce one of the special events at the workshop, Open Mic Readings.

Publicity is a challenge. Here, Kathy Binner, administrator of the Ohio Writer’s Guild, has helped me spread the word via her podcasts and wherever she goes. What a great friend, head-moderator and aid.
